FAQ

1. What are the periods of regular technical inspections (TI) for particular categories of vehicles?
Motorcycles two-wheeled and three-wheeled (L1 and L2) – 4 years after the first evidence and then periodically in 4-years periods.

Motocycles (L3, L4), threecycles (L5), quadricycles (L6, L7), passenger motor vehicles (M1), light duty vehicles not exceeding 3 500 kg (N1), trailers not exceeding 750 kg (O1) and  trailers exceeding 750 kg and not exceeding 3 500 kg (O2) – 4 years after the first evidence and then periodically in 2-years periods.

Buses (M2, M3), heavy duty vehicles (N2, N3) and trailers not exceeding 10 000 kg, resp. exceeding 10 000 kg (O3, O4) – 1 yaear after the first evidence and then periodically in yearly periods.

Wheeled tractors (T) and trailers for tractors (R) – 2 years after the first evidence and then periodically in 2-years periods.

2. What are the periods of regular emission checks (ECH) for particular categories of vehicles?
Passenger and light duty vehicles (M1 and N1) with positive-ignition (petrol) engine without catalytic converter1 year after the first evidence and then periodically in yearly periods.

Passenger and light duty vehicles (M1 and N1) with positive-ignition (petrol) engine with catalytic converter4 years after the first evidence and then periodically in 2-years periods.

Passenger and light duty vehicles (M1 and N1) with compression-ignition (diesel) engine with catalytic converter4 years after the first evidence and then periodically in 2-years periods.

Buses and heavy duty vehicles (M2, M3, N2 and N3) – 1 year after the first evidence and then periodically in yearly periods.

Tractors (T) – 2 years after the first evidence and then periodically in 2-years periods.

3. What documents have to be submitted at the regular TI, resp. ECH?
At the regular TI is necessary to submit:
  • certificate of evidence of the vehicle or it´s actual attested copy together with verification about retention the certificate of evidence issued by police;
  • protocol about installation of gas equipment - vehicles with LPG or CNG propulsion system which aren´t fitted with such equipment by the vehicle manufacturer;
  • valid certificate of EI.
At the regular ECH is necessary to submit:
  • certificate of evidence of the vehicle or it´s actual attested copy together with verification about retention the certificate of evidence issued by police;
  • protocol about installation of gas equipment - vehicles with LPG or CNG propulsion system which aren´t fitted with such equipment by the vehicle manufacturer;
4. Since when is necessary to pass ECH with the vehicle category M1 and N1 with positive-ignition  (petrol) engine with catalytic converter?
Vehicle that have been first time registered till December, 31st 1993 in the date from April, 1st 2007 bis June, 30th 2007.

Vehicle that have been first time registered till December, 31st 1999 in the date from Julyl, 1st 2007 bis December, 31st 2007.

Vehicle which the period for performance regular ECH lapses till June, 30th 2008 is liable to EI in the date from January, 1st 2008 bis June, 30th 2008; it applies fo the vehicle that have been first time registered since January, 1st 2000.
5. Since when is necessary to pass TI with the motorcycles two-wheeled (L1) and three-wheeled (L2)?
These motocycles first time liable to TI since July, 1st 2007.
6. Since when is necessary to pass TI with tractors (T) and trailer for tractors (R)?
Tractors and their trailers first time liable to TI since January, 1st 2008.
7. Since when is necessary to pass ECH with tractors (T)?
Tractors first time liable to ECH since January, 1st 2008.
8. What are the main categories of vehicles?
The main categories are:
  • Category L: motor vehicles having less than 4 wheels and quadricycles
  • Category M: motor vehicles having at least 4 wheels and used for the carriage of passengers
  • Category N: motor vehicles having at least 4 wheels and used for the carriage of goods
  • Category O: trailers
  • Category T: wheeled tractors
  • Category C: caterpillar tractors
  • Category R: trailers for tractors
  • Category S: tractor drawn interchangeable mobile machineries
  • Category P: working machineries
  • Category V: other vehicles that can´t be included into the given categoriesí

9. Types of technical inspections (TI) and emission checks (ECH):
TI are divided in:
  • regular technical inspection;
  • technical inspection before approval of individually manufactured, imported or converted vehicle to the road traffic TK;
  • special technical inspection;
  • administrative technical inspection;
  • technical inspection for carriage of dangerous goods (ADR Agreement);
  • technical inspection for the issue of the carriage authorisation (ECMT);
  • repeated technical inspection.
ECH are divided in:
  • regular emission checks;
  • special emission checks;
  • administrative emission checks.
10. What do we understand under the first registration of the vehicle?
The first registration of the vehicle means the date of the first assignment of the evidence number in  SR or in other state that is marked in the certificate of evidence. If it is impossible to find out this date but it is known the year of manufacture, the first day of this year is considered as the first registration of the vehicle.
11. What is the compulsory vehicle equipment of the category M1 (passenger vehicles)?
  • replacement electric fuses,
  • replacement filament lamps (exception of gas-discharge light sources),
  • hand-operated jack,
  • spanner or screw wrench of the wheels,
  • replacement wheel,
  • tow bar or drag line,
  • first-aid kit,
  • advance-warning triangel approved under ECE Nr. 27,
  • exposure suit (reflex waistcoat, overalls, trousers, wind-cheater or raincoat) the suit must be located in the reach of driver´s seat.
